Rakhi Card

Handmade Rakhi Card

Rakhi Card

Hello there! Today, I’d like to share a special Rakhi card that my daughter asked was making to accompany the Rakhis she was going to send her cousins.

We started by cutting purple and orange colored felt with Spellbinders Die – Floral Doily set.

I normally use a paper shim along with my Sizzix cutting plates when I cut felt or thicker card stock. It is almost magical how the die cut through the purple felt like butter. Awesome!!!

The orange felt was a bit thicker, And I did not want the orange felt cut all through, so I removed the shim and look at that! The intricate design inside did get cut but not all the way through.

Next, I aligned a cotton cord at the centre between the two die-cuts and glued with some Quick-fix.

A half pearl for the centre and two pearls strung through the cord and the Rakhi is ready!

We tried to keep the Rakhi design as simple as possible and keeping our fingers crossed that the boys like it.

For the Rakhi card, I first cut the tag using the die from Avery Elle- “A tag for all”set. Meanwhile, Shreya cut the card bases using the Martha Stewart Heavy Duty Trimmer.

Then we stamped the medallions randomly all over the tag. The medallion images are from a stamp set – I think Hampton Arts.

Since we were using the Stampaholic tool, we were able to do two tags without changing the stamp position.

Shreya was too excited at this point and wanted to adhere the Rakhis to the card and add a fun twist. So even after they remove the Rakhi to tie around the wrist, the card would still be intact. Yay! Thanks Shrey!

Now for the final touch, the Simon Says Stamp set- “Choose Happy”. This is such a cool set and such a sweet sentiment. Quick stamping with Versafine – Onyx Black ink and then we adhered the tag onto a card base. Happy Rakhi Boys!
