Washi Tape Wonders

Washi Tape Wonders

The day started with a frantic call from a friend.  It was her 12 year old nephew’s birthday, and she wanted a handmade gift box for a book.

The box was easy to make. I started out with a 11 X  11 card-stock and using the WRMK Envelope Punch Board made a box measuring 6 X 7 and with a depth of 1.8 cms. Tried sliding the book in and it fit perfectly! I stuck 3 flaps together with some adhesive and we were set.  ( If you interested you can check out the tutorial on the Gift box in the DIY section)

Brought out the Washi Tapes and selected a green numbered Washi Tape. Apparently, the boy’s favourite color is green and I had one in green!  YAY!! (No surprises there!)    Gift box decorated with Washi tape

I kept the design as simple as possible because all decorations had to be “ non-girly”.  So, simple stripes all across the box decorated the box. But somehow I felt it was too simple.

I die-cut the Happy Birthday sentiment using “A tag for all” die set and the numbers are from “Numbered Balloons” set. Both are ELLE-ments dies by Avery Elle and I think are fabulous. I am tempted to use them in all my projects.

After cutting it in green I realized it didn’t quite pop the way I wanted, so I cut another set using white card-stock. I stuck them slightly off so the white color could peek through the green. Gift box with Washi Tape decoration

They went on wonky banners and then on the gift-box. For the numbers I used a adhesive foam to add some height and placed it between the happy and birthday.

It took me less than 15 minutes to make and decorate the gift-box from scratch- it’s that simple. Washi Tapes are WONDERFUL!

So whip out your Washi tape and decorate something today!
